Fertility Preservation is the effort to help patients retain their fertility. It is indicated for following patients
- Cancer treatment
- Delay in maternal age: as the woman’s age advances, the number and quality of eggs declines. Therefore, many women choose to preserve their fertility, to become mothers when they decide and with guarantees.
Fertility Preservation treatments are:
- Oocytes Cryopreservation: After a hormonal treatment for your ovaries to produce more eggs, the oocytes are extracted and cryopreserved (a technique consisting of preserving cells or tissues at a temperature between -80 and -196).
- Ovarian Tissue Cryopreservation: Consists in obtaining fragments of ovarian tissue by laparoscopy and then cryopreserved. Laparoscopy is a minimally invasive surgical technique by which you access to the abdomen through small incisions.
- Semen Cryopreservation: For men to preserve fertility, this is the most established method. It is usually done before undergoing treatment for cancer or another fertility-threatening disease. Sperm, which can be obtained through masturbation in post-pubescent boys and men, is cryopreserved, or freezed.
